How to Wash Batiks and Set Dyes

I added a new page to the Blog.  It doesn’t automatically get pulled on networked blogs.  So don’t miss “How to Wash Batiks and Set Dyes” under the “About Batik” page.  It is a tab at the top of the blog.

Check it out!

Quilts for Japan

Here we go Quilters!  I’m going to schedule a day for making quilts for Japan at the shop. Let’s do April 16th. Everyone is welcome!  We will sew from 10 am until about 5 pm.  Come and make some comfort quilts to send to our friends in Japan.  A LOT of our fabrics are printed in Japan.  We need to open our quilter arms and embrace those in need.  Carol Britt

PATCHWORK TSUSHIN 2 Call for Quilts for Japan

Quilters Newsletter has long enjoyed a friendship with Patchwork Tsushin, a leading Japanese quilt magazine. So when Editor in Chief Naomi Ichikawa emailed to say her magazine is collecting comfort quilts for those impacted by the recent earthquake in Japan, we wanted to join the effort. QN will gather quilts from U.S. quiltmakers then forward them to Naomi and her staff, who will deliver them to those in need. (If you live outside the United States, email me as indicated below, and I will provide information on how you can send quilts directly to Naomi.)

Here’s how you can be part of this important worldwide response:

•    Send quilts of any size from baby to adult to:

Dana Jones
Quilters Newsletter
741 Corporate Circle, Suite A
Golden, CO 80401

•    Mark your box: “Quilts for Japan.”
•    Send quilts as soon as possible and no later than April 30, 2011.
•    Enclose your name, address, phone number, and email address with the quilts.

If you have questions, please email Dana Jones.

Marti & Me

The recent Marti & Me kits have been fantastic.  We have a Marti & Me Club which features a template and new pattern each month.  Members get the pattern free with their memberships and discounts on the featured products.

Zig Zag Geese is normally oriented turned 90 degrees.  But we live in the Blue Ridge Mountains so of course we saw mountains!  This quilt uses the Flying Geese Ruler.

Anna graded the batiks to showcase our ridges upon ridges in this area.  Fun to make!

Twisted uses both sizes of Drunkard Path templates to achieve an intriguing design.  Anna went hot with the batiks this time.

High Flying Kites uses the Kaleidoscope ruler and the Kite ruler.

All of these quilts have a pattern with lots of variations of design and size.  Check here for the patterns.

5 Yards of Fun – Between QIM (Quilting is Murder) Mysteries

To make life more interesting between Quilting is Murder events, we are going to read and blog about some great quilt mystery books written by Terri Thayer.  (Click on Terri’s name to get to her interesting blog.)

Terri was one of the guest bloggers on the Quilting Is Murder Blog during our first Quilting is Murder mystery.  There will be three of Terri’s books included.  Buy the books here.  So much fun!

And what good is a quilting habit without fabric, patterns, and quilts!  We are offering Becky Lomasney’s series of 5 Yards of Fun patterns.  They will dovetail with Terri’s books.

Six of the Killer Shops (WE ARE ONE!) from the first Quilting is Murder event are offering great deals on fabric packs to make the quilts.  They use 5 – one yard pieces to make a great lap quilt.  Fun, fast, easy.

We have added a little extra accent fabric for binding so you will really get 5.5 yards of coordinated fabrics and your choice of patterns.  Check out our offerings.  There are some really cute ones!

Black and White Batiks

Bali Fabrics by Princess Mirah has been providing authentic Balinese Batik for years.

One of the coolest things they do is custom batik.  We get to choose the color story and combine it with a design we like.  We get an original batik to offer to you!

These six black and white batik just arrived.  I love the scale and designs in this group.  They move from white to black nicely also.  Get some while they last!
