Beachfront Property

Batiks Etcetera & Sew What Fabrics is one of the featured shops this week on Quilting Is Murder.  Do you QIM?  It’s not too late!  Prizes every week!

Our assignment was to do a quick project with the new mystery block.

So I designed Beachfront Property showcasing the Mel’s Cute Condo and Birdhouse #1 paper pieced blocks.

It was fun to do.  I reduced the birdhouse by a third.  It was little!

The kit is available to anyone even if they are not QIM detectives.

Hope everyone gets some beach time this summer, Carol Britt

Laga Handbags

Laga Handbags are incredible.  Laga Handbags are made in Indonesia on treadle sewing machines. Roy and Louise van Broekhuizen are of Indonesian decent and were shaken by the tsunami that hit Indonesia on December 26, 2004.  Roy’s church asked him to lead a relief team to Indonesia.

Roy and Louise bought an armful of the beautiful bags that were in several local shops and brought then back to California.  They tried a home party.  Success!

From twelve ladies sewing in their homes, Roy and Louise have grown the grass roots business to employ 300 women.  What a beautiful story and a beautiful product.  Laga Handbags are enriching the lives of many in Indonesia and fostering the recovery there.

You can help too and enjoy the beauty of a handmade purse.

Click on this link to see a short You Tube video about Laga Handbags.

I’m going to order one for my birthday – can’t decide what style or color.  I think it will just be a beginning… more to come.  Carol Britt

Warm Sun, Refreshing Sea

I need some sunshine, soft breezes, the smell of salt water & sun tan lotion.

But it is just May here in the mountains so I’ll have to dream my way with batik.

I love the center batik that looks like the spines of umbrellas (sun or drink umbrellas?).

The last yellow could be cut just right for a blazing sun.

Ahhhh.  I feel the soft rocking of a boat at anchor.    Carol

Visit St. Itchez

The new Quilting Is Murder mystery has begun!  It is set in the town of St. Itchez (say that aloud!).  Our quilters are up to some detecting again!

Start reading the weekly installments now!  You can also listen to the installments in a MP3 or WAV format.

You don’t have to register as a detective but you will want to!  There are weekly prizes and weekly killer deals revealed in the clues.

This week the prize sponsor is Cotton Dreams Patterns.  They are from ME!

I am Carol Britt and am the owner of Cotton Dream Patterns and Batiks Etcetera & Sew What Fabrics.

I will be awarding a complete set of Circular Patchwork Patterns and Templates to a lucky detective.

Other prizes include one of each pattern and associated template.

Join the fun!   Carol Britt
