BATIKS Etcetera & Sew What Fabrics

Quilt with beautiful Batik.

Flannel Batik is one of the most gorgeous, soft, and tactile pleasures.  It may feel a little rough on the bolt but wash that puppy and it fluffs happily.

We have not been able to get patterned flannel batik for awhile but just received 32 bolts of gorgeous.  We offer a variety of colors, designs, and solid-y pieces.

Prewash your flannel batik to remove any remaining wax and any extra dye from the fabrics.  Remember this is Indonesian Batik made in Bali without washing machines and other benefits we take for granted.

I wash it with medium or high heat.  I finish the ends of the flannel before washing so I don’t lose much to raveling.

I am feeling a Quickest Quick Step in my future!

This pattern is ideal for flannel.  It takes just 9 fat quarters for the front and 9 for the back plus the borders and binding.

The Quick Step Quilt sews and quilts at the same time.  I enjoy giving each side a different personality in color.  It usually ends up hot one side and cool the other.

One side could be flannel and the other cotton batik!

Have fun quilting!  Carol Britt

New Oreo & Orca Batik from Hoffman

Oreo, Orca, or Black great designs in black and white batik from the new fall line of Hoffman Batik.

We saw these designs being made and finished when we were in Bali in May.  Beautiful!

Here the Hoffman employees check EVERY yard of batik before it is approved for shipment. They run the fabric across a light table to watch for any problems in the base goods, dye, or stamping.

The care that is taken to make sure each piece is just right is so inspiring.

It is so amazing that these beautiful batik can be purchased for so little.  So much art, care, design, and effort goes into every yard.

Although I am showing so fantastic black and white today, every design comes in many fabulous colors.  Check it all out at what’s new at

The inspected batik is sew together end to end and then rolled on tubes for shipment to the US. They are broken down into the 15 yard bolts here in the states.

This photo shows several tubes of the Oreo butterfly ready to ship. You can see two other of the batik shown in different quality control stages.

Spring Bouquet Block of the Month

Spring Bouquet by Laundry Basket Quilts, Edyta Sitar using Over the Rainbow batiks and Silhouettes (laser cut fusible shapes for applique) starts soon.  The batiks are made by Moda Fabrics.

The finished size 72″ x 72″.  That would a great size on a queen sized bed – the mattress is 60″ across.

We will have all the batiks on bolts.  The Silhouettes will be available in other packages like leaves, flowers, stems, etc.  We will offer all of those too.  Also charm packs, jelly rolls, and fat quarter packs will round out the selection.

This beautiful Block of the Month at first glance looks to be way beyond me … BUT the appliques are already cut out and backed with fusible web!  I’ve always wanted a beautiful floral applique quilt.  This might be IT!

The Silhouettes are placed on the background block and fused in place.  A detailed pattern shows the locations of each petal and leaf.

Then you stitch them in place using the fantastic thread assortments by Aurifil.  The small assortment is ten colors of 50 wt Aurifil on 220 yard spools.  The large assortment is twelve colors of 50 wt Aurifil thread on 1422 yard spools.  Both assortments save money over individual spools and come with a handy storage box.

The first month’s cost is $95.75 and includes the pattern, Over the Rainbow charm pack and all the background fabric.

Months 2 through 11 cost $35.50 and include the silhouettes, borders, and binding.

Now taking pre-orders. We will begin shipping late September, 2012.  Our original shipping date was August but the bolts have been delayed.
